DETAILS: The canon point I am plucking Dimitri out of is one of his most mercurial and volatile states of mind. His mental health is in a very delicate state and depending on who he is interacting with, what thoughts are spiraling in his head, and his general stress levels you can see a wide variety in the way he acts.
At his core Dimitri is a very kind, sincere, and compassionate man. He believes he must break the cycle of the strong trampling the weak. With this idea he is unable to reconcile with the idea of killing for one’s ideals ever being an appropriate action to take. In this, he has rather black-and-white thinking as he dehumanizes all killers as monsters, including himself. He holds a great deal of self hatred within his heart.
It is not merely just for the killing that he hates himself, but also for surviving The Tragedy of Duscur when so many did not. This occurred when he was 13 and Dimitri suffered a great toll on his psyche from this. He feels an immense amount of guilt for being unable to save those he lost, going so far as to wish he hadn't survived. The ramifications of this traumatic event manifest within him in other ways as well, one of which being a headache that never leaves him. Dimitri doesn't seek to rid himself of this headache, however, as he believes it serves as a reminder that he may never forget those he failed to protect, and of the murderers who have still yet to be punished.
Another ailment he from since the The Tragedy is an inability to taste most food he eats. While this leaves him to be not a very picky eater, it isn't something he is able to derive much joy from. He also believes himself to be haunted by the tormented spirits of those he has lost, as well as those he has killed. Dimitri sees physical manifestations of these ghosts, particularly his father, stepmother, and dear friend Glenn. These cause Dimitri to have great distress for their wellbeing, and is driven to satisfy their need for revenge as he believes it will end their constant-suffering. To this end he has gained an obsessive hatred of Edelgard, his estranged step-sister who he believes was involved in the murder of his family.
He has lost any semblance of happiness and composure he used to have and has become very cynical and brooding. Dimitri puts on a rather cold front despite having all of his emotions roiling hot inside him.
In lighter times he has an odd sense of humor, finding great delight in jokes he openly admits are unfunny and terrible. Dimitri enjoys spending his time combat training and doing weapon repair, as well as finding great comfort in a long ride upon a horse when he is depressed. He also enjoys teaching others what he knows, which stems from his strong desire to help people.
Dimitri states that one of the reasons he was able to keep on living after The Tragedy was because he was able to save Dedue’s life that same day. Then, five years ago, it appeared as if Dedue had died in his successful attempt to save Dimitri from execution. He is overcome with emotion when reunited with his old friend, and makes Dedue promise not to throw his life away for him any more.

ABILITIES
SKILLS: In the video game Dimitri comes from he is one of the physically strongest units the player has access to. Not only is he able to continually deal out massive amounts of damage on the battlefield, he is also able to take a significant beating. The mix of his strength, stamina, defense, and speed make him an absolute nightmare to face on the battlefield.
Dimitri learned how to hold a sword far before he ever learned how to read. While he is good with a sword, he dominates the field with a lance. Having little training with an Axe, he can use one, just not very well. Enough to do damage, but no real finesse. His skill with a bow matches that of his sword, however, he doesn't prefer ranged weapons. Dimitri is also very capable in hand-to-hand combat, and with his intense strength he is able to crush a living person's skull in one hand.
CREST OF BLAIDDYD: A power that is passed down within his bloodline. Dimitri's Crest contains a passive effect granting him with strength most people have called 'monstrous'; we see this play out in his daily life as he often ends up breaking training weapons, sewing needles, and the like. This Crest can also activate when in battle, increasing his strength and damage output. Within the video game it literally doubles his damage, which is already terrifying high to begin with.
HORSE RIDING: He is competent enough upon a steed to be able to ride one into battle. He was far better at it five years ago, so he is a touch out of practice.
SURVIVAL SKILLS: Having spent the majority of the last five years on the run from execution Dimitri is highly skilled at living off the land. He is able to forage for edible plants, find and/or build shelter, hunt, and navigate without a map. Dimitri also has rudimentary first-aid-skills.
MAGIC: While Dimitri does not have a natural aptitude for magic, he can, given time and hard work, overcome this. He has the potential to learn lightning magic and healing magic, although this is not a path he has yet to walk down in this timeline. He may not know them now, however if a scenario came up where he was able to learn, Dimitri could, eventually, make this ability blossom.
WEAKNESS: He has next to no magical-resistance, so if you can hit him with that before he gets you in his range, you just might survive. But again, he's quick, so be careful.

HISTORY
CHRONILOGICAL: Dimitri, the crown prince of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, was born in the year 1162. Shortly after his birth his mother succumbs to a local plague. It isn't until the year 1171 that his father King Lambert remarries a commoner named Patricia. Patricia is a kind woman and Dimitri has only nice things to say about her, although she sometimes seems to suffer from bouts of melancholic longing leaving her unapproachable to the young princeling.
In 1176, he was the sole survivor of the Tragedy of Duscur, in which his father King Lambert, the Queen consort, and many of his knights and friends were brutally murdered, allegedly by assassins from the Duscur region. This incident permanently warped the young prince, leaving him with a deep-seated grudge against the perpetrators and a hidden capacity for extreme violence. However, Dimitri has always suspected that the people of Duscur had been scapegoated. In the aftermath of the Tragedy, he saved a young Duscur commoner named Dedue from being lynched, leading him to develop an extremely strong sense of loyalty towards Dimitri.
After the Regicide, the King's older brother Rufus, Dimitri's uncle, stepped in as Regent. Immediately he had Dimitri kept hidden away, claiming he was keeping the young prince safe. Rufus kept Dimitri isolated from all of his friends and peers save for Dedue, and had his own men keep a close watch on him. In these years Dimitri is treated very coldly by his uncle.
The first battle Dimitri fought in was in quelling an uprising in 1178, where we can first see a glimpse of the darkness that has been festering in the prince's heart. He's seen to be mirthful in battle, seeming to enjoy the bloodshed. This causes his old best friend Felix to become disgusted by him and put further distance between the two becoming rather callus.
In 1180, Dimitri enrolled at the Officers Academy at Garreg Mach Monastery along with several of his friends and people from his kingdom. Around this time, a mercenary named Byleth rescued him from bandits hired by a mysterious masked individual calling themself the Flame Emperor. Byleth was rewarded with a teaching post at the Officers Academy, where they chose to lead Dimitri's house: the Blue Lions.
Dimitri spends the next year studying and training at the Officers Academy. However, he dedicated most of his spare time researching the events surrounding the Tragedy of Duscur trying to find out who was truly responsible. The Monastery sends Dimitri's class on numerous missions, quelling rebellions, saving villages, and defending the church- some of which involving the Flame Emperor. Eventually, the Flame Emperor is unmasked and launches a full-scale invasion of Garreg Mach Monastery and Dimitri fights alongside the Church and his classmates, but the monastery is overrun and Byleth goes missing.
After the fall of Garreg Mach, Edelgard, the leader of a different class as well as the heir to the Adrestian Empire, declares war on the continent. The students scatter and return to their homes in preparation of the coming war, with Dimitri returning to Faerghus. However, he is framed for the murder of his regent and uncle Rufus, and he only escapes when Dedue sacrifices himself and is presumably executed in his stead. Believing all of his friends and family dead, Dimitri spends the next five years living as a vagrant in the Garreg Mach region and mercilessly slaughtering Imperial soldiers and bandits, and his mental state continues to deteriorate until he becomes completely obsessed with revenge.
Five years later, in 1185, Dimitri's fellow classmates reunite with him and their long lost professor. Everyone is shocked by the state they find Dimitri in, but they all agree to stand together against the Empire. In the next five months they gather more reinforcements and begin their march onto enemy territory.
