DETAILS: At his core Dimitri is a very kind, sincere, and compassionate man. He believes he must break the cycle of the strong trampling the weak. With this idea he is unable to reconcile with the idea of killing for one’s ideals ever being an appropriate action to take. In this, he has rather black-and-white thinking as he dehumanizes all killers as monsters, including himself. He holds a great deal of self hatred within his heart.

It is not merely just for the killing that he hates himself, but also for surviving The Tragedy of Duscur when so many did not. This occurred when he was 13 and Dimitri suffered a great toll on his psyche from this. He feels an immense amount of guilt for being unable to save those he lost, going so far as to wish he hadn't survived. The ramifications of this traumatic event manifest within him in other ways as well, one of which being a headache that never leaves him. Dimitri doesn't seek to rid himself of this headache, however, as he believes it serves as a reminder that he may never forget those he failed to protect, and of the murderers who have still yet to be punished.

Another ailment he from since the The Tragedy is an inability to taste most food he eats. While this leaves him to be not a very picky eater, it isn't something he is able to derive much joy from. He also believes himself to be haunted by the tormented spirits of those he has lost, as well as those he has killed. Dimitri sees physical manifestations of these ghosts, particularly his father, stepmother, and dear friend Glenn. These cause Dimitri to have great distress for their wellbeing, and is driven to satisfy their need for revenge as he believes it will end their constant-suffering. To this end he has gained an obsessive hatred of Byleth, his professor who he believes was involved in the murder of his family.

In lighter times he has an odd sense of humor, finding great delight in jokes he openly admits are unfunny and terrible. Dimitri enjoys spending his time combat training and doing weapon repair, as well as finding great comfort in a long ride upon a horse when he is depressed. He also enjoys teaching others what he knows, which stems from his strong desire to help people.

ABILITIES
SKILLS: In the video game Dimitri comes from he is one of the physically strongest units the player has access to. Not only is he able to continually deal out massive amounts of damage on the battlefield, he is also able to take a significant beating. The mix of his strength, stamina, defense, and speed make him an absolute nightmare to face on the battlefield.

Dimitri learned how to hold a sword far before he ever learned how to read. While he is good with a sword, he dominates the field with a lance. Having little training with an Axe, he can use one, just not very well. Enough to do damage, but no real finesse. His skill with a bow matches that of his sword, however, he doesn't prefer ranged weapons. Dimitri is also very capable in hand-to-hand combat, and with his intense strength he is able to crush a living person's skull in one hand.

CREST OF BLAIDDYD: A power that is passed down within his bloodline. Dimitri's Crest contains a passive effect granting him with strength most people have called 'monstrous'; we see this play out in his daily life as he often ends up breaking training weapons, sewing needles, and the like. This Crest can also activate when in battle, increasing his strength and damage output. Within the video game it literally doubles his damage, which is already terrifying high to begin with.
HORSE RIDING: He is competent enough upon a steed to be able to ride one into battle. He was far better at it five years ago, so he is a touch out of practice.
MAGIC: While Dimitri does not have a natural aptitude for magic, he can, given time and hard work, overcome this. He has the potential to learn lightning magic and healing magic, although this is not a path he has yet to walk down in this timeline. He may not know them now, however if a scenario came up where he was able to learn, Dimitri could, eventually, make this ability blossom.
WEAKNESS: He has next to no magical-resistance, so if you can hit him with that before he gets you in his range, you just might survive. But again, he's quick, so be careful.

HISTORY
CHRONILOGICAL: Dimitri, the crown prince of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, was born in the year 1162. Shortly after his birth his mother succumbs to a local plague. It isn't until the year 1171 that his father King Lambert remarries a commoner named Patricia. Patricia is a kind woman and Dimitri has only nice things to say about her, although she sometimes seems to suffer from bouts of melancholic longing leaving her unapproachable to the young princeling.

He cannot remember who taught him to dance or who he gave the dagger to.

In 1176, he was the sole survivor of the Tragedy of Duscur, in which his father King Lambert, the Queen consort, and many of his knights and friends were brutally murdered, allegedly by assassins from the Duscur region. This incident permanently warped the young prince, leaving him with a deep-seated grudge against the perpetrators and a hidden capacity for extreme violence. However, Dimitri has always suspected that the people of Duscur had been scapegoated. In the aftermath of the Tragedy, he saved a young Duscur commoner named Dedue from being lynched, leading him to develop an extremely strong sense of loyalty towards Dimitri.

After the Regicide, the King's older brother Rufus, Dimitri's uncle, stepped in as Regent. Immediately he had Dimitri kept hidden away, claiming he was keeping the young prince safe. Rufus kept Dimitri isolated from all of his friends and peers save for Dedue, and had his own men keep a close watch on him. In these years Dimitri is treated very coldly by his uncle. There are also many assassination attempts.

The first battle Dimitri fought in was in quelling an uprising in 1178, where we can first see a glimpse of the darkness that has been festering in the prince's heart. He's seen to be mirthful in battle, seeming to enjoy the bloodshed. This causes his old best friend Felix to become disgusted by him and put further distance between the two becoming rather callus.

In 1180, Dimitri enrolled at the Officers Academy at Garreg Mach Monastery along with several of his friends and people from his kingdom. Around this time, a mercenary named Byleth rescued him from bandits hired by a mysterious masked individual calling themself the Flame Emperor. Byleth was rewarded with a teaching post at the Officers Academy, where they chose to lead Dimitri's house: the Blue Lions.

Dimitri spends the next year studying and training at the Officers Academy. However, he dedicated most of his spare time researching the events surrounding the Tragedy of Duscur trying to find out who was truly responsible. The Monastery sends Dimitri's class on numerous missions, quelling rebellions, saving villages, and defending the church- some of which involving the Flame Emperor. Eventually, the Flame Emperor is unmasked and launches a full-scale invasion of Garreg Mach Monastery and Dimitri fights alongside the Church and his classmates, but the monastery is overrun.

His memory has been altered and he believes Byleth was the one under the Flame Emperor mask.

After the fall of Garreg Mach, Edelgard, the leader of a different class as well as the heir to the Adrestian Empire, declares war on the continent. The students scatter and return to their homes in preparation of the coming war, with Dimitri returning to Faerghus. However, shortly after his arrival he is thrown in prison for the murder of his uncle Rufus, the regent.

Dimitri has a blank space in his memory between returning home and being imprisoned. He does not know if he is guilty of the murder or if he is being framed.

FORGOTTEN MEMORY: He cannot remember who taught him to dance or who he gave the dagger to.

Woe, there may be spoilers here on throughout

Personality:
» What traits do your character admire in a person?
Dimitri admires kindness, resolve, and above all: strategic tactics on the battlefield. The kingdom Dimitri hails from is a very martial place where even he, the crown prince, learned to hold a sword before he learned how to write his own name. Most of his own battle strategies have too straight forward of an approach to be masterful, so he is quick to admire people who have a mind for such things. Resolve is another big one as he has dedicated himself to a cause and knows how much dedication and sacrifice can go into it, especially as he can be plagued with doubts. He also admires kindness for the world has done a lot to stomp it out of him, so when he sees people who are kind through and through he wishes he could be like them and defends them as best he can.

» What do they dislike most about themself?
Ha! It would be easier to make a list what he liked about himself. Currently, what he hates most about himself is how he was unable to save those lost in The Tragedy of Duscur- in both the inciting incident and the fallout. Dimitri holds immense guilt for having survived when better people did not so much so that he secretly holds being saved against the man who saved him. Although he asked Gustave to kill him; Dimitri is not one to give up, but rather will continue to throw himself into dangerous positions to try and accomplish his goals with little regard to himself.

He doesn't think there is anything worth telling about himself, Dimitri believes himself to be rather uninteresting and plain.

» What discrepancies are there between their inner self (who they feel they are) and their outer self (how they present themselves to others)?
Outwardly he projects a composed and affable demeanor. He presents the world with a welcoming smile and does his best to seem nonthreatening and approachable. In fact he seems to embody the very definition of chivalry. ...While inside he is desperately wishing any of this were true. Dimitri believes himself to be a monster, and has been slowly losing his composure over the past year. While he is rather kind-hearted, he holds back a strong yearning for violence and revenge. He thinks himself vile for having such thoughts, yet he cannot rid himself of them as he believes he has a duty to pursue revenge for the dead who cannot do so for themselves.

» Who are two influential people in their life (can be positive or negative)?
Byleth
Byleth has been his professor for his time at the Officers Academy, but their role in Dimitri's life has not just been one of academic guidance. They grow closer on the battlefield, and when Dimitri begins to see past Byleth's mask of indifference he finds he genuinely cares for them. While Dimitri does admire their skills and sincerely praised them often, he had grown to trust them wholeheartedly. After Byleth lost their father Dimitri offers comfort and empathy, opening up about his own loss and how he wishes for them to continue on. This relationship has been ruined for him by his altered memory, causing him significant distress.

The Ghost of his Father
Dimitri sees, hears, and believes himself to be haunted by the ghost of his father (among others). When Dimitri sees him the man appears to be in constant agony and mired in hate. He is constantly pushing Dimitri to seek out revenge, to take the head of the one who caused the massacre in Duscur. The ghost is constantly critical of Dimitri as well as insinuating his son doesn't have what it takes to see this task through. The only time in which the spirit seems to be happy is when Dimitri is in combat, especially if he is killing his enemies. Seeing him in agony keeps his guilt for surviving continuous, as well as pushes him to seek revenge so that his loved ones' suffering can end. Over the last year Dimitri has begun to see them more and more frequently as well as has a near constant headache because of it.

» What do they get excited about?
Dimitri gets excited about well crafted weapons! He is a blade enthusiast. He also finds great delight in terrible jokes, particularly wordplay and puns- they cause him to burst out into uncontrolled laughter.

He is also excited to be out and about. Ever since his parents murder until him time at Garreg Mach he was basically under house arrest and kept under constant surveillance. While the outside world isn't knew to him, he has been deprived of it for several years.

» What is something they are very bad at?
Handling any kind of delicate work. His 'monstrous' strength has left him apt to break delicate items, such as fine china, or sewing needles. One of his friends attempted to teach him how to mend his own clothing, but he broke numerous needles and even a pair of scissors trying to learn. After all of his practicing he now able to hold the needle and not break it, but still has zero skill in actually sewing.

» What is one thing they would tell their younger self if they had the chance?
Dimitri would desperately try and get his younger self to convince his father against traveling to Duscur, and thusly avoiding the Tragedy that took so many lives. He would not tell this to his younger self for his own benefit, but rather to save the lives of the others. It is truly his deepest regret.

» How do they want to be remembered?
Dimitri does not care to be remembered, nor does he even truly wish for a future. He holds no dreams for himself, and has not even wasted time thinking up some. He's dedicated himself to seeking revenge and he intends to do it even at the forfeit of his own life. So, no, he hasn't thought about how he wants to be remembered- which is ironic as one of his greatest fears is forgetting the faces of his loved ones who have passed.

Powers/abilities:
☾ CREST OF BLAIDDYD: A power that is passed down within his bloodline.

☾ ROYAL LINEAGE+: Grants Dimitri with heightened skills in avoiding attacks.

☾ CHARM: Grants allies within 6ft radius the ability to deal more damage.

☾ DESPERATION: If Dimitri's HP hits 50% or lower his attacks come at a more ferocious speed. Able to get two hits in for each of his enemies' one.

☾ ATROCITY: A unique ability that only occurs when someone with the Blaiddyd Crest wields the Hero's Relic Areadbhar: Anything this strike hits takes damage as if it were effective against it. (ie: if it hit a fire monster it would take damage similar to if it were hit with water) (Dimitri does not currently have this weapon on him)

Inventory: Having been taken from a prison cell Dimitri only has the cloths on his back and now the Sentimental Item and Gemstone.

Sentimental item: ☾ The Dagger ☽. Very complex feelings about this item. He'd given it to a dear childhood friend with whom he had a crush on. He has since, however, found out it belongs to someone he believes to be the person responsible for his family's murders. Due to his altered memory he believes that person to be his professor Byleth, whom he was previously developing a crush on, as well as greatly looked up to and respected. This dagger represents his broken trust as well as his life long enemy, the one whom he has pledged his life to kill in revenge for the fallen.

Gemstone: Dimitri's gemstone is mainly dark blue with some white sporadically on it- much luck the stone Sodalite. It's fairly polished, however it has a chip missing out of it, giving it a rather rough and bumpy edge.

Lost memory #1: Before the Tragedy for a brief period of time an 11 year old Dimitri became friends with Edelgard. Having met at a ball she saw how he was graceless on the dance floor so she taught him how to dance. He developed a minor crush on her, and upon hearing that she would be departing his kingdom he gave her a gift of a dagger so she may be able to 'cut her own path'.

He cannot remember who his friend was that taught him to dance nor who he had given the dagger to. While this may not have great impact on Dimitri alone, this strengthens the legitimacy and effect of the altered memory.

Lost memory #2: After Edelgard declares war on the continent all of the students of Garreg Mach return to their respective homes to prepare for the coming war. However, shortly after returning to The Holy Kingdom of Faerghus Dimitri is framed for the regicide of his uncle and thrown in prison.

Dimitri has a blank space in his memory between returning home and being imprisoned. He does not know if he is truly guilty of the murder or if he is being framed. This will leave him shaken as he believes any and all killings to be inexcusable and vile acts only monsters make. Dimitri knows he is capable of such violence and this will plague his conscious.

Altered memory: When fighting enemies of the church Dimitri and his class engage in battle with the Flame Emperor. The enemy accidently leaves behind the dagger and Dimitri immediately recognizes it as the one he had given to his friend all those years ago. This is gravely troubling as he believes the Flame Emperor is responsible for The Tragedy of Duscur, where his parents, friends, knights, and many soldiers were slain.

Later the enemies return and Dimitri's class foils the Flame Emperor's plans once more, however this time he is able to unmask them. Upon learning the true identity of the Flame Emperor Dimitri's fraying sanity snaps and he murders the enemy soldiers in cold blood- crushing skulls with his bare hands with a smile- in an attempt to remove the Flame Emperor's head from their shoulders. Tragically the enemy uses warp magic and escapes.

His memory has been altered to where he believes his beloved professor Byleth was the one under the Flame Emperor mask changing the person whom he is obsessed with killing in revenge. Not only does this change the direction of his vast hatred, but also this damages his ability to trust greatly. He had grown close to the professor, trusting them very deeply in all aspects of things. Dimitri believed this to be the one person he could follow forever. Now, this is shattered.
